FAQ
Questions about SAYA, Garmin & recovery — answered.
Everything people ask before joining: how SAYA reads your Garmin, what the metrics mean, and how your data stays yours. Can't find your question? Reach us any time.
Does SAYA work with my Garmin watch?
Yes. SAYA connects to your Garmin account and reads the sleep, heart rate, HRV, stress and activity data your watch already records — no extra wearable, no exports. If your Garmin tracks sleep and heart rate variability (most modern models do), SAYA can turn that data into recovery insights.
Which Garmin devices are supported?
SAYA works with Garmin watches that record overnight heart rate variability (HRV) and sleep — including recent Forerunner, Fenix, Venu, Vivoactive, Vivosmart, Instinct and Epix models. Because SAYA reads data through your Garmin account rather than the device directly, any watch that syncs HRV and sleep to Garmin Connect will work.
How is SAYA different from Garmin Body Battery or Garmin Connect?
Garmin Connect shows you what happened last night. SAYA shows you why — and what to change tonight. It links your evening habits (dinner timing, wind-down, workouts, alcohol) to your measured recovery, then computes personal correlations from your own nights. It's the evening coach that Body Battery doesn't try to be.
Does Garmin have a Recovery Score?
Garmin gives you pieces — Body Battery, HRV Status, and on newer watches a Training Readiness score — but no single recovery score that ties last night's recovery to what you did the evening before. SAYA computes a Recovery Score (0–100) from your Garmin data: your sleep, your HRV versus your own baseline, your evening and morning resting heart rate, and how far your HRV had to climb overnight — then shows which evening habits moved it. A recovery score you can act on, not just read. How the score is built is documented in SAYA's methodology.
Does Garmin have a Readiness Score or Sleep Score?
Yes — Garmin shows a Sleep Score each morning, and newer devices add a Training Readiness score. SAYA doesn't replace those numbers, it explains them: it reads the same Garmin data and links each score to your evening — dinner timing, late training, alcohol, stress — so a low Sleep Score becomes a specific thing to change tonight instead of a number that just dropped. More on reading the number: Garmin Sleep Score explained.
How do I get deeper sleep analytics for my Garmin?
Garmin Connect shows the raw sleep numbers; SAYA is the analytics layer on top. It turns your Garmin sleep, HRV and heart-rate data into your evening resting heart rate, an HRV-Incline recovery reading, a measured chronotype, and personal correlations between your habits and your sleep. Sleep analytics for Garmin that tells you not just what happened, but why — and what to do tonight. An overview of what your Garmin records and what SAYA adds: Garmin sleep & recovery analytics.
Can I improve my Garmin HRV?
Your overnight HRV is largely set in the hours before bed. SAYA reads your Garmin HRV and finds which of your evening habits — late workouts, alcohol, heavy or late dinners, unresolved stress — suppress it most, ranked from your own nights. Change the one that costs you the most, and your Garmin HRV has room to rise. What tends to push it down: why HRV can be low at night.
What is HRV, and why does it matter for recovery?
HRV (heart rate variability) is the tiny variation in time between your heartbeats. Higher, more stable overnight HRV signals that your nervous system is in recovery mode; a low or climbing curve means your body is still under load. SAYA reads your Garmin HRV to score how well tonight actually restored you — not just how long you slept. Read more about overnight HRV and the HRV-Incline.
Can an app really improve my sleep?
SAYA doesn't put you to sleep — it shows you which of your habits help or hurt your recovery, measured on your own body. When you can see that late workouts cost you recovery points or that an earlier dinner deepens your sleep, changing them gets a lot easier. It's behaviour change backed by your real Garmin data.
What is a chronotype, and how does SAYA measure it?
Your chronotype is whether your body naturally runs early (a lark) or late (an owl). Instead of a quiz, SAYA measures your mid-sleep point across real nights — the MCTQ method used in chronobiology — and places you on a seven-type spectrum, so your bedtime, training and meals can follow your actual biology.
Is my Garmin health data private?
Yes. Your data is stored in Google Cloud in Frankfurt, Germany, under GDPR — the strictest privacy standard there is. SAYA never sells your data, shows no ads, and uses no tracking SDKs. You can disconnect Garmin or delete your account and all its data at any time. See our App Privacy Policy for the full detail.
Do I need a subscription to use SAYA?
SAYA is currently in private development and free for early-access users. Pricing for the full launch hasn't been finalised — the waitlist is where the first invitations and any launch details go out, in order.
What is the evening resting heart rate, and why does SAYA read it?
In the last hour before sleep, your heart rate is a preview of the night ahead. A body that settles low and calm is primed for deep sleep; one still running hot pays for it in recovery. SAYA reads this evening resting heart rate automatically from your Garmin — no button to press — and tells you how ready you are before you even close your eyes. The full explainer: evening resting heart rate and sleep recovery.
